A tragic event unfolded over the weekend in Ondo town, the administrative center of Ondo West Local Government Area, as 53-year-old Iyabo Akinnawo collapsed and passed away just hours before her son’s wedding.
The exact cause of her death remains unclear, but sources suggest that the deceased, a respected businesswoman in the community, had been preparing for the wedding when the incident occurred.
An unnamed source revealed that Iyabo had visited a salon to get her hair done for the upcoming ceremony. Upon returning home, she complained of a severe headache and decided to rest in bed.
Unfortunately, just hours later, as she was preparing to attend to wedding-related tasks, she collapsed and passed away after briefly regaining consciousness.
Despite attempts by her family to revive her, they were unsuccessful, and she was declared dead soon after.
According to another version, the deceased had been in good health when she returned from a trip to the market to buy items for the wedding. A witness mentioned that she had taken a motorcycle to get home that day.
The sudden death of the prominent businesswoman has sparked widespread shock and speculation within the community, with many suspecting a heart attack or cardiac arrest as the cause.
When Hope’s correspondent visited the area, family members and residents were gathered, still in disbelief over the tragic news.
In response to questions about the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Yaba Police Station, Mr. Victor Olowolagba, confirmed that no formal report had been filed yet.
He promised to take action as soon as a complaint was officially lodged.
