No fewer than four people have reportedly died while six vehicles got burnt in a gas tanker explosion at Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The incident happened at about 5.30pm Ita-Oshin end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Saturday.
Our correspondent gathered that, the gas laden tanker driver rammed into the road divider in order to reduce the impact the accident.
The loud explosion threw motorists and residents of the area into confusion and panic.
Remains of the casualties were been evacuated from the accident scene by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The vehicles that got burnt included taxies, a private car and a truck, while some shops and houses were consequently affected by the explosion.
Security and safety agents at the scene could not give a precise statement on the accident, however, an eye witness who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said some casualties had earlier been moved to the hospital by the rescue teams that came earlier.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Federal Fire Service, Oluwasegun Ayansiji, said personnel of the service were still on rescue mission and promised to get back to our correspondent.
