Boy Who Threatened, Demanded N100m In Jos Bank, Wore Fake Explosives’ – Police

The Plateau State police command has confirmed that the man arrested inside a commercial Bank in Jos, the city center, was actually carrying a Fake bomb which looked like an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), but was not.
Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, while confirming the incident to newsmen said the Command immediately made a deployment to the Bank after an alarm was raised by officials and a vigilante group who apprehended the suspect.

According to the Police, it was later discovered that the bomb was fake and looking like an IED device, but was not.

The young man identified as Benjamin Basil and a student of the Plateau State Polytechnic was caught with an item suspected to be bomb at the premises of a commercial Bank in Jos South area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.

Angered by the situation, a mob within the Dadin Kowa community immediately attacked the suspect and demanded his execution, but the Police were able to control the situation before taken him away for further investigations. According to Zagazola, the Vigilante security spotted the suspect strapped a bomb to his body and apprehended him before he could carry out his objective on Monday, 13th May 2024.

The suspect was immediately surrounded by an angry mob who were ready to lynch him.

However, when asked why he was strapped and ready to detonate the explosives, he said ‘he was forced.’

Meanwhile, it’s not clear if the suspect is linked with the Islamic State of the West African Province, ISWAP or Boko Haram but he’s been taken to the police for further investigation.
