The English FA has handed Mykhailo Mudryk, a Chelsea winger, a four-year ban for testing positive for banned substances.
According to the BBC, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed the sanction in a statement on Wednesday, announcing the player’s appeal.
The Ukrainian winger has been provisionally suspended since December 2024 following “an adverse finding” in one of his routine urine tests.
According to reports, Mudryk used meldonium, a cardiovascular medication which can increase respiratory capacity and stamina, while on duty with the Ukraine national team in October 2024.
The 25-year-old insisted that he had not “done anything wrong” and the discovery was a “shock”.
In its statement, CAS said that Mudryk filed an appeal against the FA’s sanction on February 25, 2026.
The Parties are currently exchanging written submissions, and a hearing is yet to be scheduled,” the statement reads.
Mudryk is represented by Morgan Sports Law, the firm that defended Paul Pogba during his doping case, which initially resulted in a four-year ban before it was reduced to 18 months after a CAS hearing.
Mudryk joined Chelsea in 2023 for £88.5 million and has a contract that runs until 2031.
