The Civil Rights Councils is a non governmental and not for profit human rights organization. The Rivers state chapter of the organization held it’s state congress today the 31st of July 2024.
The Civil Rights Council as a human rights organization have taking a critical look at the prevailing socio- economic situation in the country and observed with dismay the soaring poverty and rising cost of living often worsened by loss of jobs and insecurity across Nigeria.
It is quite appalling that in the face of this difficulty the Nigerian Government and ruling class are neck deep in corruption, ostentatious living and waste of state resources. This is not only annoying but a gross display of leadership failure in the management of the affairs of state.
The fact remains that there is no sign or any hope that the current managers of state affairs has plans to redirect the worsening conditions of living of the masses in the country. This has left the people with the only option of exercising their civic and constitution rights of protest as a way of drawing Government attention to the challenges of the moment.
The Civil Rights Council stands with the Nigerian people at this critical moment. While urge all to endeavor to participate in marches and rallies in the days to come we implore all to be civil and peaceful in their conducts. We are not at war but all through history all aggrieved people have always expressed their dissatisfaction in one form or the other ours is in the form of protest and civil peaceful assembly which is within our legal rights as citizens of the federal republic of Nigeria.
We implore all CRC units to endeavor to be part of the peaceful protest to convey to the Nigerian Government the urgency of the moment. Nigerian leaders must as a matter of fact act now to fix the refineries, create jobs, ensure a favourable naira- dollar exchange rate, fight insecurity and corruption in the country etc.
The Civil Rights Councils call on all security agencies in Nigeria to extend their services to all protesters. It is their duty to protect the Nigerian people and at all times and the moment of protest is not an exception. We shall continue to work and advocate for a better united and prosperous Nigeria were all is equal before the law and life is worth living with life and property secured.
Thanks and God bless you all.
