Corrosion Management of Refinery, Pipelines, Trucks, All Metal Objects -NICA Offers Cutting Edge Solutions

An annual event organized by the Nigeria corrosion  Association in a three days conference with the fusion of students and other stakeholders has offered cutting edge solutions on management of Corrosion in the oil and Gas sector

The Nigerian Corrosion association which came up with a communique offered solution to various challenges faced by practitioner and urge federal Govt to consider the introduction of Corrosion courses in tertiary institutions to aid better understanding of practice

The Theme for this year’s event is; corrosion management in the downstream and midstream oil and gas industry.

Highlights of the event includes, welcome address by the conference chairman, opening remarks by NiCA president, speeches by the Rivers state governor and the state commissioner of environment, Tour of exhibition led by the conference chairman, Award of top three essay winners.

There was also keynote speeches on Corrosion management by NMDPRA, global corrosion management of refinery, amongst others.

Giving his welcome address, chairman of the conference, Engr. Uche Benedict Ekekwe, spoke on the impact of corrosion to the systems and possible prevention measures

Also speaking, president of NiCA, Prof. Auwal Kasim, emphasized on the significance of the “theme” adding that Nigeria’s economy and it’s sustainability is essential for the country’s collective progress.

He stated that the ramification of unchecked corrosion are costly, not only in terms of financial loss but also with regards to safety environmental efficiency

Delivering the keynote address, Engr. J Mieba George, a fellow of the Nigerian Corrosion association, identified various problems of corrosion beginning from the designing stage.

He also encouraged starters to always go in-depth in their studies of the foundamentals of corrosion and it’s principles.

Engr. George therefore advocated that every pipeline in Nigeria should have a parallel road to secure and scare vandals against destructions.
