Flouting Of Rivers CP Order By Inspector: Police Withdraw Case Against Accused Person

Chinonso Emmanuel had a sigh of relief on Wednesday 19,July,2023 following the withdrawal of a case of belonging to unlawful assembly against him by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Porthacourt.

When the case was mentioned Today, Godday Amadi Esq a Police lawyer announced the withdrawal of the case and the case was subsequently struck out by the presiding Chief Magistrate Anugbum Obiareri .

Investigation showed that Mr Emmanuel was arrested by SCIID, Porthacourt based on compliant by an official of his union at Mile 3 building materials.

Mr Emmanuel days after his arrest, petitioned the Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi complaining of bias and unprofessional conduct by his Investigating Police Officer (IPO), one Inspector George (Surname withheld) at SCIID against him (Mr Emmanuel).

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi based on the strength of the petition directed that the case involving Mr Chinonso Emmanuel and the complainant be transferred to X-Squad at Hypercity building at Eastern bypass for independent and unbiased Investigation.

We gathered that the IPO, Mr. George at SCIID despite receiving the signal for transfer of the case to X-Squad as directed by the CP, arraigned Mr. Emmanuel in court in flagrant disregard to the directive of the CP.

Edward Charles Esq, lawyer who wrote the petition for Mr. Emmanuel had in an interview with Journalists expressed shock that a Police Inspector could disregard the directives of the Commissioner of Police.

Mr Charles in the interview with Journalists then urged the CP to take action against the Officer for flouting his directives .

Meanwhile Mr. Emmanuel has commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi for his Intervention in the matter.
