Gunmen Kill Two Ekiti Monarchs Returning From Security Meeting, Kidnaps 14 School Children, Head Teacher, Driver

Fourteen School Children with a head teacher and a driver were reportedly kidnapped on Monday in Ekiti State,

A traditional Chief who pleaded anonymity said the victims were students and staff of a Nursery/Primary School (name withheld) in Emure, Ekiti State.

According to him, “they were kidnapped after their school bus was intercepted in Eporo Ekiti, at a location that shares boundary with Ondo state.

Armed Bandits on Monday, reportedly killed two monarchs in Ekiti State and kidnapped school children. According to multiple reports, the two Monarchs, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti and the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, were killed by armed bandits along the OkeAko-Ipao road.

The duo – Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, were attacked by the gunmen while retuning from a meeting.

Sources, according to Oodua News, disclosed that another monarch, Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, however, narrowly escaped when the armed men accosted them and attempted to forcefully take them away.

“They were travelling together. The armed herdsmen stopped them and rained bullets on them. They took their personal belongings and dragged their bodies into the bush,” Oodua News quoted a source as saying.

When contacted, the police spokesman in the state, Sunday Abutu said, “I will get the details and get back please.”

However, the chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Micheal Ogungbemi confirmed the incident said the gunmen attempted to kidnap the three traditional rulers.
