The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) ended a late-night meeting on Wednesday in Abuja without reaching an agreement on the controversial tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu.
The inability to find common ground prevented the governors from issuing a communiqué, which is unusual.
Sources revealed that the proposed tax bills, which have sparked widespread criticism, were at the centre of the discussions.
The bills have faced rejection from the 19 northern governors and the National Economic Council (NEC), intensifying the divide among state leaders.
The meeting, attended by 15 governors, primarily from the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with Governors Alex Otti of Abia and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, ended without any official comment.
The silence from the governors after the session has further fueled speculation about the unresolved disagreements and the future of the controversial reforms.
