Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections Peter Obi, has indicated willingness to consider a vice-presidential position if he finds a candidate he believes can fulfill the role more effectively than he could.

When asked about the possibility of accepting a vice-presidential candidacy in 2027, Obi remarked: “Honestly, I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria; my urgency lies in seeing Nigeria thrive. If I encounter individuals who can accomplish that better, I would contemplate being Vice President.”

He added, “I’ve even had people suggest that I should refrain from running in 2027, to which I responded: ‘Offer yourself, and we can evaluate everyone’s potential.’”

Obi emphasized his commitment to the Labour Party but expressed openness to merging with other political figures if their goals align with his vision.

He said: “Absolutely, I will remain with the Labour Party. If anyone approaches us for negotiations or collaboration, they must articulate their intentions clearly.

“I will not align with anyone simply for state capture or electoral victory. I want to know how we can ensure that no child is left behind and how we can reintegrate the millions of out-of-school children into the education system.”
