Relief Intl Africa Calls For Intentional Inclusion Of Youth In Governance To Mark 2024 International Youth Day

Relief International Africa Commemorates the International Youth Day 2024 with theme; “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”

In commemoration of International Youth Day 2024, with the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” Relief International Africa emphasizes the critical need for the Nigerian government, both at the federal and state levels, to prioritize and actively engage in inclusive governance. This year’s theme highlights the transformative power of digital tools in driving sustainable development, particularly for the youth, who are at the forefront of technological advancements.

Relief International Africa highlights the following:
1. Youth as Catalysts for Digital Transformation: – Relief International Africa recognizes the immense potential of Nigerian youth in harnessing digital technologies to address societal challenges. The youth have demonstrated unparalleled innovation, adaptability, and resilience, making them pivotal in the journey toward achieving sustainable development goals.
2. Call for Intentional Inclusiveness in Governance: – The organization urges the Nigerian government to be deliberate in incorporating youth and women into the decision-making process. Despite progress in some areas, there remains a significant gap in the representation of these groups within governmental structures. Relief International Africa advocates for policies that not only recognize but also empower youth and women to participate actively in governance at all levels.

3. Bridging the Digital Divide: – As the world becomes increasingly digital, it is essential to ensure that all segments of society, particularly the youth, have equitable access to digital resources. Relief International Africa calls on the government to invest in digital infrastructure, education, and training programs that equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in a digital economy.

4. Women’s Inclusion in the Digital Space: The press release also highlights the importance of creating digital opportunities for women. Women’s participation in the digital economy remains lower than that of men, largely due to systemic barriers. Relief International Africa urges the government to develop gender-responsive digital policies that promote women’s access to technology and their involvement in digital entrepreneurship.
Partnerships for Progress:

Relief International Africa calls for stronger collaborations between the government, private sector, civil society, and international organizations to create a conducive environment for youth and women to contribute to the nation’s development. Such partnerships are vital for nurturing innovation, supporting entrepreneurship, and ensuring that digital transformation benefits all.

Relief International Africa reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower youth and women in Nigeria. On this International Youth Day, the organization stresses that achieving sustainable development in Nigeria is only possible through the inclusion of all voices, particularly those of the youth and women. The time is now for the Nigerian government to take intentional steps toward creating an inclusive, equitable, and digitally-driven future for all.

Finally, we use this single opportunity to thank and appreciate the Rivers State Government for launching a youth incubation and innovation hub through the planned construction of the Rivers State Youth Resource center. We believe that this process signifies greater hope for the youth and people of Rivers State. Our earnest prayer is to see this center kickoff soon.
