Rivers State Govt Flag-Off Free MNCHW 2024: Targets High Risk Pregnancies, Continuous Reduction Of Maternal/Child Morbidity and Mortality

The Rivers State Government Has flagged off the maternal and child healthcare MNCHW: week 2024, through the state Primary Healthcare Management Board in port Harcourt

Flagging off the funfair event in a colorful and cultural ceremony attended by Public health supervisors Officers, Religious Leaders, Community mobilizers, Pregnant women, Nursing Mothers, children and community women from Eliozu  The commissioner for health in Rivers state Dr Adaeze Chidinma Oreh during the flag off ceremony said,-

“the Governor Similaye Fubara administration is committed to preventing pregnant women from High risk pregnancy as the MNCH Week is all about raising awareness,  providing quality services in our primary healthcare facilities to improve maternal, Newborn and child health”

“This is a focal point of any healthcare delivery system, the healthcare of our mothers, The health outcomes of the children is An indicator of how well the society is doing, So the government in flagging off the MNHC Week today in rivers state is highlighting the importance of maternal newborn and child health to the Rivers State Government”.

She also said the program is free of charge for all nursing mother’s and pregnant mothers and their babies the Governor Siminalayi Fubara led administration is not living any stone unturned to prevent pregnant women from high risk pregnancy.

She also explained that  This is “One of the key indicators for success and development in any society so its been a very exciting day for us here at the flag off 2024

The State Health commissioner Dr Adaeze Oreh also revealed that major area in this 2024 MNCHW is antenatal care, Vital cancer screening, Immunisation HPV Vaccination, Nutrition supplementation: She said  “There is something we all also did here, particularly exciting is Obstetrician, Gynae for pregnant women at the primary health centers, what this will do is that it will enable our pregnant mothers to at the very first point care receive Obstetric gynae, so that we have early risk identification of high risk pregnancy and adequate quality care management, sure up the survival of not just the mothers but their Babies and this also will further improve the maternal and child health and reduce maternal and child morbidity for our mothers and our children”

She also noted that,  “Over the past year we have recorded improvement in our maternal and child morbidity and mortality, and we have increased support for nutrition for mothers and children, These successes are due to the collaborative efforts of our medical personnel. Our Volunteers, our community Leaders, Our Policy makers at the state and the local government level and the general Leadership of the river state Government led by our supportive Governor Sir Similaye Fubara

Also speaking at the flag off “The representative of the world health organisation Dr SADIQ I’LL ABUBARKA commended the rivers state government for prioritizing the health needs of Rivers people and providing access to healthcare

while, representative of UNICEF Sandra James expressed pleasure over the bold steps in  delivering of healthcare services to River people by the government
