Unconfirmed Number of Person Burnt To Death In A Tragic Tanker Explosion In Rivers

The fire outbreak at Akpajo to Petrol chemical junction Last night has left many dead while traveling or returning back to their families at close of work , our correspondent reports serious casualties and cars on fire in the disaster dubbed worst of it all in recent times

An unidentified number of persons have been burnt to death in the tanker explosion in Rivers State, according to person close to the vicinity. we gathered that fire fighters loaded two truck of water could not quench the fire as it continued to raze cars trapped on the line in the holdup

“The victims were feared killed following the explosion of a tanker loaded with fuel at the Eleme section of the East-West Road

An eye witness says another truck fully loaded with goods mistakenly scratch the body of the tanker loaded with petroleum product while trying to overtake the tanker in a perennial hold up and traffic situation in that area close to the C4i check point not far from the Indorama Petrochemical Company located along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road, as road leading to some critical national assets,”  junction linking the Eleme petrochemicals

The  tanker laden with petroleum products exploded around 9:45pm on Friday, April 26, 2024 and affected other vehicles in a traffic queue.

Another source said: “We heard two very loud sounds some minutes ago, and people were shouting. A tanker explodes and went aflame.

“The sound came from the Petro-Chemical company area. So when I came out, I saw a thick smoke with fire from a distance.”

Another witness identified himself as peter said  “This is what our government enjoys. Unleashing disaster on the people. That road puts so much money in the government coffers yet they couldn’t take serious steps to make it safe despite several protests, demands concerning that road” its unfortunate.
