The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji, has been impeached by members of the House.
We gathered that 18 of the 24 members signed for the Speaker’s impeachment Tuesday morning.
Four of the members including Ginger Onwusibe, Solomon Akpulonu, Munachim Alozie and Kelechi Onuzuruike refused to sign.
His removal followed a motion moved by Hon. Chukwudi Apugo (Umuahia East), and seconded by Hon. Okey Igwe (PDP, Umunneochi)
Details of his impeachment are still sketchy as at the time of filling this report but may however not be unconnected with the alleged unwillingness of the Speaker to commence impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Ifeanyi Uchendu representing Ohafia South confirmed the impeachment to Journalists in Umuahia, the state capital on Tuesday but did not disclose other information.
Rt. Hon. Orji, son of the former Governor Theodore A. Orji had lost his bid to represent Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency in the House of representatives in the just concluded general elections.
