Rivers Police Debunks Reports That One Life Sunday Died In Its Detention Cells

The Rivers State Police Command has denied reports that one Life Sunday died in one of its detention cells.

Recall that his family accused the Octopus Strike force unit of the command of torturing him to death while he was in their custody. But the Spokesperson of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko tells our correspondent that late Sunday confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang. She said he died in a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds during a gun battle between his gang members and the police at their hideout in the forest.

SP. Iringe-Koko said a kidnapped victim was rescued and an AK47 gun retrieved while other members of the kidnapping gang escaped.

Recall that the family of Life Sunday had raised alarm over alleged death of their Son in custody of Octopus Strike Force unit of the Rivers State Police command.

Elder brother to Mr Life Sunday,Leegbari Sunday in a telephone interview with Journalists said Mr Life Sunday was arrested around Odani area, Elelewon in Obio/Akpor Local Government area on 7th October,2022 .

The Elder brother to the suspect disclosed that the Police personnel at Octopus Strike Force unit, told them that their brother was arrested based on a petition written by a prominent person in their area in Ogoni which alleged that the suspect is a notorious person.

Leegbari Sunday said the Police did not allow the their brother access to them neither did they allow him access to a lawyer.

He said they told the Police unit to charge their brother to court if he has committed any crime but the Police declined.

Leegbari Sunday revealed that recently the family got reliable information that their brother died in Police custody may be out of torture.

Mr Leegbari called on the Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon to tell the Octopus Strike Force unit to produce their brother (Life Sunday) in public or in court if they claim he is alive.
